A popular boat for Chris Craft in the early 1980s, the 332 Commander
Express is unusual in that she was built on a true deep-V hull, a rare
platform for a family cruiser. Deep-Vs tend to be somewhat unstable in
a beam sea (at slow speed), and they aren't usually noted for their
fuel efficiency, but they do have superb handling qualities in heavy
seas, a characteristic that quickly sets the 332 apart from the
competition. She underwent several updates over the years, including
the addition of an arch in 1983, and in 1986 a revised floorplan was
introduced with a settee opposite the dinette and a new swim platform
was added at the transom. While her interior isn't particularly roomy
for her size, the 332 has one of the largest cockpits found in any
33-footer. Indeed, the oversize cockpit more than compensates for the
compact cabin accommodations. With big-block 454cid gas engines,
she'll cruise comfortably around 21-22 knots and reach a top speed of
30+ knots.
